The Issaquah High School baseball team sits alone in first place of the Crest Division today after walloping Eastlake 11-1 on Monday in a five-inning 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Issaquah’s bats matched the steady rain that fell throughout the game. The Eagles, 10-3, pounded out 13 hits.
Spencer Rogers led Issaquah with three hits. He also drove in a run. Devin O’Donnell and pitcher Shane Yarnell each had two hits and two RBIs. Mike Paulson and Grant Gellatly each had two hits.
Issaquah scored five times each in the first and second innings. Eastlake got its run in the top of the fourth but Issaquah answered in the bottom of the fifth. Because of the 10-run rule, the contest was called.
Yarnell struck out five batters and didn’t allow a walk in raising his record to 7-0.
With Redmond and Newport both losing, Issaquah holds a one-game lead. The Eagles play at Skyline on Wednesday in a key contest and conclude the week Friday at Newport.
In other action, Skyline surprised Newport 3-1. Pitcher Peyton Harrod held Newport to three hits and struck out five in compiling a complete game. Nate Litka had two hits, one a solo home run, to lead the Spartans, 7-5. Newport dropped to 8-4.
Redmond, which had been tied with Issaquah, lost to Garfield 11-8.
In the 3A/2A KingCo Conference, first-place Liberty lost to Mount Si 7-4.
Issaquah softball belts Bothell
The Issaquah High School softball team, which sometimes has struggled to score runs this season, erupted Monday as the Eagles pounded Bothell 10-4 in a 4A KingCo Conference contest.
Heather Benjamin had two hits and drove in four runs for Issaquah. Christian McKone also had two hits for the Eagles.
Issaquah pitchers Mikenzie Voves and Brielle Bray combined on a one-hitter. Voves worked the first 3 2/3 innings and struck out six. Bray finished the contest and had three strikeouts.
In other action, it was Inglemoor 8, Skyline 4; Eastlake 7, Lake Washington 4; Roosevelt 19, Garfield 2; and Woodinville 9, Newport 1.
In the Inglemoor-Skyline game, Elizabeth Stromquist had two hits and Lauren Wolfe drove in two runs for Skyline.
Eagles top Liberty in golf
Katherine Yoon shot a 40 on Monday as she led the Issaquah High School girls golf team to a 229-254 victory against Liberty at the Snoqualmie Falls Golf Course.
Elin Skaardal added a 46 for the Eagles. Alex DuVall topped Liberty with a 48.
Liberty lacrosse nips Mount Si
The Liberty High School boys lacrosse club edged Mount Si 12-11 on Monday in a Washington State League Division II contest.
Anthony Nantz, Dalton O’Brien, Forest Hurley and Andrew Tierney each scored two goals for Liberty.
Matt Mahrer had four goals for Mount Si.
